Take me out to the crowd...I love going to baseball games! Attending a game is an All-American experience yet so many of my students have never had the opportunity. Each year, toward the end of the spring semester, we study about heroes in our culture. We read about Martin Luther King Jr, Gloria Estefan, and Lou Gehrig-the famous baseball player! I try to teach them about sportsmanship, the rules of the game, and its origins. Each of the heroes mentioned above lived through difficult circumstances and remained strong. This is a life lesson I strive to teach my 4th graders. Ulloa Elementary is a public school so we have a variety of different students attending, some of whom are fortunate enough to have been to a real naseball game but most of the students in my class have never seen a live game or been to the stadium in our city. Our home team is the San Francisco Giants and I would love to have the opportunity to take my class to see a game at SBC Park. We can easily travel there on our own but we need help with the tickets since it can be quite expensive for 32 students! I know this experience will be special and important to my students. Not only does it help them visualize how the game is played but they get to see just how big the field actually is or hear the actual cheers from the crowd. They will be able to relate what they've learned in our curriculum about Lou Gehrig and baseball to the real thing. I'm sure you remember your first game, just as I do. Help me make this possible for my students! ...Buy me some peanuts and cracker jacks...I dont care if I never go back so it's root root root for the home team, if they don't win it's a shame! For it's one, two, three strikes out in the old BALL...GAME!
