This year I have the pleasure of teaching math learning support for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students in our school. The class sizes range from 1-11 students in our itty bitty learning support classroom. I will facilitate learning through partner work, think-pair-shares, & centers.
My students are 1st through 5th grade learning support students with special needs.
They are wonderful and talented and deserve all the good things that come to them. Each child has faced many challenges academically, socially, or physically. Despite these, they find the joy in school and see our learning community as their safe place. Our school is small, spirited, and caring in an urban community.
My Project
Since my class size has grown, we don't have enough room for our circle tables anymore--- or enough seats! We are in desperate need of long rectangle tables to allow for more space and chairs to allow everyone to sit and join our classroom community!
Just by sitting and joining a class, students feel like they belong.
It is difficult enough to be pulled out of a classroom for a learning support class--- why not make this child feel like he or she belongs and are taken care of while in my classroom?
