The extreme heat is making it hard to think! Please help our students learn in a safe environment by donating an air conditioning unit to our classroom. Our school sits on a historical district so pulling the permits to add A/C is nearly impossible. Our classroom averages between 90-100 degrees!
My class is a lively bunch of third graders attending a school that sits on a historical district.
The surrounding buildings remain old and in tact to their original state. The school is no different, and being a part of a public school is hard to get the funding for building permits in regards to historical building construction.
We're an average middle class neighborhood that drives community awareness, responsibility, respect, and safety. At this moment we're not feeling very safe attempting to learn in an environment where temperatures reach 90-100 daily. These temperatures are common through October and then continue again in April.
Regardless, the heating system in the school is so old that the rooms during the winter months are often too hot because temperatures aren't regulated properly. This donation will be greatly appreciated by our community and will be used year round.
My Project
It pains me to see the children sweat during the school day. There's always a line to my sink for filling water bottles. Stomachs and heads are constantly hurting due to heat exhaustion. They really do want to learn, but it's hard to get comfortable. We're working with the lights off to eliminate heat. The fans do nothing but swirl the hot air around the room.
The heat is making everyone grumpy. The students plead with me to make it cooler in the room during the day. It's quite simple. All we're asking for at this time is some sort of cooling system for our classroom. Simply put, we're sick of sweating all day long!
We're not a fussy crowd. We just want our heads to stop hurting by the end of the day. An A/C unit will help us so we can finally take learning seriously. We will be more focused to begin all of the exciting units we have planned for this year, like Colorado/Denver history, electrical units, the solar system, Writing Alive, Reading Anthologies and life cycles.
I'm pretty sure you can tell that this is important due to health and safety issues.
It is far too hot for students to be sitting in a room that is 90-100 degrees. Learning is hindered by children who can hardly stay awake after lunch. Water refills are a distraction to all, but I can't stop them from trying to hydrate themselves during the day. We need your support to help cool down our room.
