Each day in my kindergarten class, my students spend time in centers doing hands-on activities to aid their learning in a fun, age appropriate way. Many of these activities are printed on card stock, laminated for durability and are created by me.
My students attend a Title 1 school with a large percentage coming from non English speaking homes.
Many enter my classroom knowing little or no English. It is a great comfort to them to see some materials in the only language they are familiar with.
My Project
With this printer, laminator, card stock and laminating pouches, I will be able to create hands-on activities in their native language as well as in English for my students to use during our daily center time.
Additionally, it will provide these little learners hands-on materials that they can use independently and with their peers, giving the teacher a chance to provide much needed assistance to small groups and individuals.
I currently spend hundreds of my family's dollars each year buying ink for my classroom printer that was also purchased with my personal money many years ago. This printer is compatible with the new HP instant ink program which will allow me to purchase ink for the year at a discounted price, thereby freeing up some of my personal funds for other projects for my students.
Having materials in children's native language as well as in English will not only aide them in learning content and in learning English, but also will do so in a non threatening and age appropriate way.
It will give my little ones the support they need as they begin their educational career.
