Every year teachers spend hundreds of dollars of their own money on basic supplies for the classroom. It would be nice if some of this was supplied to us, just once.
My classroom is full of 20 wide-eyed, energetic students who are ready to learn.
Their brains are like little sponges that absorb everything. They come from families who are struggling in this horrible economy. But I try to not let their home struggles affect what learning happens in the classroom.
My Project
Every year I spend hundreds of dollars on school supplies for my classroom. My students do not have the money to donate supplies let alone have supplies for themselves. I spend about half of my summer scoping out all the sales to get the best deals. It would be really amazing to not spend as much money. I wish I could give my students more. If some of the basic supplies like pencils and paper were taken care of, I could spend my money on books for our library. Having pencils and a new pencil sharpener will help the kids day to day. We use pencils all the time. Although some days I feel like the kids eat them because we go through so many! Being able to give the student markers to color with would be great. I buy them crayons and always wish I could afford to give them markers. And the copy paper would be used to copy homework, class activities, and we use it to draw graphic organizers.

What a joy it would be to know that I will be starting the next school year off with classroom supplies that i didn't have to buy. And what i joy for kids to have new pencils and nice new markers.
