Have you ever had that moment when you walk into a meeting or a party ans had been expected to bring something and you forgot? Maybe you just used that as an excuse because you honestly could not afford to get that item. This is happening more often in the classroom and it is impacting our students.
Our student body is very diverse.
If you walk into my classroom, on any given day, you will find a room full of students with genetic connections from around the world, students will disabilities sitting next to students who excel and are gifted and talented, students who have parents who are in the military, students who have been or are homeless, a student who has recently lost their home in a fire, and a student who has recently been hit by car that did not stop to help. We are a community that is diverse in many ways. Among this diversity are students who are having difficulties in purchasing supplies for school.
My Project
The diversity among our students is a positive thing. These students will be the leaders of tomorrow and need the experience that this diversity provides them . This diversity works when every student can participate without reservations of their own. When a student feels as if they cannot participate because of financial concerns, the student misses out on the experience and is unable to focus on the tasks at hand. By being able to provide supplies, the student does not feel as if they stand out because no one knows who didn't bring anything. They feel as if they are on an equal playing field. They feel, at ease. A student who feels at ease is a student who can concentrate on their education needs because they do not need to focus on their supply needs.
Education is the key to success future.
Studies have shown that a high school diploma leads to a more productive citizen. The student who needs the education the most, the low income student, is the student most apt to not get an education do to financial woes. By providing some of these supplies such as paper and gluesticks, the education of these students, therefore the future of these students, are directly impacted. Impact a student, impact the future, please help us purchase these supplies.
