Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” -Albert Einstein. This quote relates to my project because my students need materials to become more successful learners.
My students come from mostly low income households.
The majority of them are English Language Learners and are struggling to meet grade level standards. They are a wonderful group of students, who each bring something unique to our classroom. They enjoy learning about Science and they love to have free-writing time. Currently their goal is to become better writers by learning about the writing process, and both my 3rd grade group and my 4th grade group are working on mastering their multiplication facts.
Our school is a Title I school and we are striving to bring students up to grade level across all the grade levels. Our staff works hard to make sure the students have what they need to be successful including breakfast in the morning and warm coats for those who need them.
My Project
My school is very low income. The students cannot afford to bring their own school supplies, so the teachers are given a small budget to provide supplies for the whole school year. As a new teacher, that small budget did not go a very long way. They will be using these supplies on a daily basis to extend their learning. We need the whiteboard markers because we use our whiteboards on a daily basis in spelling and math. They need more construction paper to make covers for their stories and for creating their own solar system models. I was able to get a CD player and headphones from our library, but our classroom does not have a good place to store it. The listening center organizer will be the perfect solution, so they can listen to reading.
This project will make a huge difference in our classroom by providing my students with essential items that they need every day.
Without basic items like paper, and dry-erase markers my students will not be able to accomplish their learning targets.
