Can you help my kids discover the world around them? The super scientists in my class love to explore and discover new concepts. They are drawn to hands-on science activities and often speak of them throughout the year.
My 1st grade classroom is comprised of 100% military dependents.
They are 7 years-old and are an amazing group of kids who attend school while their parents serve in Afghanistan, recover at the military hospital from their war-inflicted injuries, or complete their duty to our country. They love learning, have fun making EVERYTHING into songs, and find pure joy in trying to read. I want to provide them with every opportunity to flourish and grow. I owe them at least a year of growth and I know that my efforts and partnership with parents and Donors Choose will allow me to help these amazing children! How do I know so much about my students when it is only summer? Because I am blessed with the opportunity of looping with my students to 2nd grade! With this, I will get to jump right into the school year and help my budding scientists from the start!
My Project
I am requesting science exploration materials that my students will be able to work with as novice scientists. With a strong focus on reading at this level, I would love the ReaderFIRSTs Theater activities to help me integrate more reading into their science curriculum. A benefit of this is that it will help differentiate learning for students who need additional ways to process and hear the information. They can act it out! The first rule for any scientist is to remember Safety FirstÃÂ. I would like the safety poster set and goggles to help students remember the expectations as well as feel like real scientists with official gear. The hand lenses are just one tool they will be able to use throughout the year as they explore matter, force, motion, living and nonliving organisms, and more! The daily science activity page will be a great way to review taught material and allow for ongoing assessment of student knowledge acquisition.
