Every morning I am greeted by seven little smiling faces who are eager and ready to learn!
I have seven students diagnosed with Autism.
I have four first graders and three second graders. Their ages range from 6-9. My students are high functioning and are working on the same curriculum as their same age peers. This is definitely challenging because my students process things differently, and require constant redirection and supervision. I have found that they are able to focus and learn best with the help of visuals. This is also an issue because at the present time my school does not have enough laptops and tablets due to lack of funds in the budget. My school is an elementary school grades Pre K- 5. Teachers and parents at my school are very involved and put the children first.
My Project
My students need an iPad mini in order to access applications that will enhance their learning. iPads in my classroom will benefit my students in many ways. There are specific Apps that are targeted for students with Autism. My children will benefit from using various Apps on the classroom to improve their communication, social, and academic skills. An iPad will be the perfect tool to keep them engaged and learning throughout the day. I can also use it as a way to reward them for working hard! The benefits that an iPad will have in my classroom are infinite. I hope you consider donating for my special little ones.
The addition of an iPad will have an enormous effect on my students' social and communication skills.
There are Apps available that they can access which target specific skills each child needs to improve. At the present time I use these Apps on my iPhone, but the screen is small and difficult to maneuver. In a few short days of using these Apps I have seen improvement in my children.
