I have a group of 7th graders who are working with another teacher and started a peer led tutoring for the younger kids. The students have requested supplies, written permission slips, and gotten permission from admin to start their program.
In an enrichment class, our students chose to change their community, starting with the school. Some groups are building and designing chicken coops, some are helping the homeless and less fortunate, and this group has chosen to help their younger students with math and reading.
The groups are working on their communication skills, while working with each other to decide the best way to fund, supply, and research their ideas. They are also practicing writing and presenting their ideas to administration, their peers and each other to get school-wide support. They are also working with budgets, time constraints, and all the work involved with starting, maintaining, and working to meet a goal.
In Their Own Words
We are trying to create a successful tutoring program that helps fellow students with their curriculum and school projects, while having fun. My partner and I feel that the students should also be able to interact with each other as they are learning more. This is our goal and we very sincerely want to achieve it.
We will print out fliers to sponsor us and present to the school. Also, our program will be present in the newsletter. Our teacher will help organize and supervise the program to make sure that everything is in order.
This is important because the students at our school deserve to be helped in subjects and projects that they are struggling in. We also feel that tutoring is not fun. Our project will help make tutoring fun, especially if we have all of our resources.
