"The most important thing in communication is hearing what isn't being said. The art of reading between the lines is a life long quest of the wise."
-Shannon L. Alder
It's all about that comprehension and we are working diligently in our classroom so that everyone "gets it!" Listening is key.
Our students come from a diverse background at Carrollton Elementary.
The ethnic make up mirrors that of the United States as a whole pretty closely in terms of racial numbers. Hispanic population is slightly higher due to the fact that Carrollton began as a migrant community with many families opting to put their roots down permanently. Our socioeconomic status is such that 100% of students get free lunch, breakfast, and healthy snack.
My Project
During our morning I am fortunate to have the support of multiple teacher aides working with me to improve literacy skills through reading, writing, speaking and listening. We also have managed to acquire some pretty good technology by way of grants. The headphones that we'd like as this project would allow students to avoid interfering with one another as they work on individual apps, programs, and websites as it tends to get a bit noisy when everyone is working with these at the same time.
Student Chromebooks, iPads, and PCs allow very individualized assessment and delivery of specific skill set practices.
Having earphones available to all students would allow them to all work simultaneously while each is doing something completely different that fulfills a need due to a learning gap. Headphones seem like a small thing but the opportunity they would provide would be HUGE.
