Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach music at a Title I school where the poverty level is high, with the majority of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. My students come from multicultural and various family backgrounds, including Spanish and Vietnamese speaking families. Some students come from other countries without being able to speak any English. Imagine how difficult that can be.

Music class is a place where these diverse students can come together to be creative, artistic, and become musicians.

My students are developing into amazing musicians through singing, dancing, playing instruments, and performing.

My Project

Playing the ukulele is fun, and engaging. The ukulele is an effective instrument for learning basic songs and developing skills in music theory. Ukuleles are easy to hold and manipulate because of their size. The size of the ukulele allows for small hands to easily play a variety of chords.

Playing the ukulele can help hand-eye coordination, reduce stress, improve hearing skills, increase focus and concentration abilities, and improve math and reading skills.

Students will also gain a sense of achievement after learning to play the instrument. Learning the ukulele in fourth grade will prepare students for joining ensembles in middle school. Please consider donating to support our ukulele music program.
