My students need storage for all the equipment needed for our brand new theater department. We also need paint for making props, and other theatrical elements.
Welcome to an explosion of creativity! We are always building, and creating, and the evidence of that seems to be everywhere. It's hard to describe a typical day, because one day students may write a script, the next sew a costume, and the following day focus lights, and then build a set.
Our school is brand new with a brand new theater program.
We emphasize the importance of technical elements like building scenery and props, designing and creating costumes, lighting, sound, etc. This means that while imagination is foremost, equipment is also a major part of what my students need to leave our CTE (Career and Technical Education) program ready to work in the professional world and all that equipment needs a home. Our projects range from building sets and props for full length plays, to building costumes and puppets for children's shows, to designing and executing special effects makeup. By giving our students a range of skills, we are preparing them to adapt, and succeed in a wide range of theatrical areas which ultimately prepare them for life inside and beyond the theater--even while creating a home within our program.
My Project
While theater is a creative art, it also has a structure. Every detail is documented and organized to maximize efficiency, and minimize the potential for error. By using the storage spaces appropriately, students are learning invaluable skills of organization, problem solving, and how these skills apply in the world of stage specifically.
The gift of confidence and independence is irreplaceable, and that is what I continually see theater give.
Not only will donors to this project help these students gain the skills mentioned before, but they are also giving to our rural community who come to see our performances. There is something special about that curtain opening and the spectacle of the show. It is often called ÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂtheater magicmagicÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂ. The patrons of theater are as much a part of that as the crew or the actors.
