My students need a laptop to be in the Stock Market game, do research for projects, and complete activities on Penda learning. The sharpeners are for daily use.

The more my students experience hands-on activities, the more in-depth their learning and connections with the real world will increase.
My 6th, 7th and 8th graders consist of 15 actively engaged students in a high poverty area. This talented group of kids is made up from a variety of socio-economic settings. I teach in an alternative learning environment where my students need a wide variety of strategies and materials. These students struggle in the traditional school setting and are often some of the brightest students around. The purchase of the laptop will push my students' interest and learning beyond the textbook. They can utilize it when creating many of the activities we do in math, literacy, history, and science. Students research companies for the Stock Market Game, and utilize the laptop when being challenged on Penda and other programs. This laptop will be utilized three very specific ways plus other ways that might pop up along the way of my students' educational journey.
My Project
(1) I want my student to participate in the Stock Market Game to its full potential. As everyone knows, the stock market waits for no one and so my students need to be able to check on their stocks daily. In order to do this they need to have consistent technology available at their finger tips. (2) They also need to have access to technology for research; different companies, and for classroom projects in science or history. (3) The students need to have access to participate in programs such as Penda Learning. This program provides remediation, enrichment, and more in both math and science. Student also need access online books for reading. Another program would be the InQuizaQuest - Fraction program. I love how much technology supports my teaching. We are only limited to the shortage of technology in my classroom.
Our pencil sharpeners don't always work and disrupt class. This particular handheld sharpener is wonderful and solve many issues.
It is a known fact that students have greater understanding and retain more when they are actively involved in the learning process.
