Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you been to a professional orchestra concert or had the opportunity to hear the various instruments played with skill and quality? How about meet composers and journey through their lives? My students need to experience the full realm of music, the big picture.

My students are ready and eager learners, yet they have no idea what is beyond their apartments and the school setting.

Their music exposure extends no further than background music in console games and the booming radios in passing traffic. My K-4th grade ESL students need to experience the "fine" in Arts - to see, hear, and meet the instruments and composers that create the music that motivates and moves us so.

My Project

The interactive software included in this project will allow the students to see instruments and hear quality recordings of them. They will be able to compare the instruments side by side, and at their own will - something you don't get even at a concert! The included DVDs will expose them to real concerts and conductors, introduce them to composers and show what the world was like when they were alive, and deliver a variety of styles that they do not encounter in their daily lives. Exploring music will be at their fingertips - expanding their world, their senses, and their imaginations. There is so much more nuance, finesse, and emotion to music than they are currently aware of.

Elementary children are open to just about anything - they don't have preconceived ideas of what is good or cool.

They are happy to join in and try new experiences placed before them. This project will not only broaden their exposure to instruments, composers, and music, it will show them the vast creativity is that afforded to them by music - inspiring them to take flight and discover even more!
