The daily routine of the STEM Lab includes teaching students of all grade levels K-5th. Each class receives instruction and participates in hands-on activities and STEM challenges based on the Science content of the grade level.
The STEM Lab is part of the specials rotation at my school.
All classes are served in the lab on a rotating basis, 640 students. Classes include regular education classes, regular education inclusion classes, and special education classes. Each class is comprised of students from all ethnicities and varying abilities.
My school is located in a suburban area and is made of students from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds. We have a stable population and many of our students begin and end their elementary education in our school.
My Project
The science tools will allow students to experience and practice how to use science equipment properly. Students will learn how to use this equipment while completing STEM activities and challenges. Students will be able to accurately measure, examine, test, and complete activities in a lab setting with this equipment. The students will be able to participate in activities similar to scientists in the real world. The experiences with this authentic lab equipment will be to help prepare the students for their future education or even career.
This project will enable the students to learn the proper use of lab equipment and incorporate it into their hands-on activities.
Students often lack experience using science equipment at the elementary level, and this project will provide that experience as well as help the students to be become better prepared for their future lab classes, education and career.
