Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Currently, I teach 71 Albert Einstein Academy 6th grade students. These scholars are curious, intelligent and incredibly adept at combining technology into all of their learning experiences. The students have created digital presentations about landforms, investigated volcanoes, compared cells and identified adaptations, all through the use of technology.
The students are encouraged to deepen their understanding through project-based learning.
Hands-on activities, student-led experimentation and engineering activities are just a few ways these scholars are learning about major scientific ideas. Through the development of projects, students demonstrate their understanding of key concepts, problem solve, develop perseverance and learn how to effectively work in cooperative groups, all of which are integral, real-life, 21st century skills.
My Project
I am requesting 1 iPad Air, 1 three-year protection plan, and 1 iPad case to integrate technology into Science projects. The students will use the iPad in countless ways to enhance their academic learning. The students will be able to see landforms from 3D Earth, visit volcanoes and navigate their distance from our school and watch virtual dissections. The students will also learn how to record and edit a movie to create an informative movie trailer. The movie trailer will introduce their fellow classmates to future science units and core concepts. The students will also use the iPad to record video documentation of in-class experiments. They will document growth rates of different organisms to respiration rates in plants. Lastly, during outdoor environmental field trips the students will use the iPad to identify constellations, native flora and fauna and major landforms.
This project will improve my classroom by providing my students with an opportunity to utilize technology throughout all of their projects.
The students will readily apply their scientific knowledge in real world scenarios.
