This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Have you ever thought science was boring? My students are "hooked" when introducing a new science concept by reading trade/picture books to them. My students need more books to introduce STEM concepts.
Our students attend an urban public school where 100% of the population receives free lunch.
In this part of Michigan our students are a lively bunch of multicultural children. They are not regularly exposed to current science related literature. They love reading but because of budgetary constraints our library is lacking in expository science books. The community is lacking resources and many of our libraries are closed. It is imperative that our students receive a well rounded education. For this community STEM is a gateway to scientific exploration and create future scientists.
My Project
My little scientists need a wide variety of experiences that expand their knowledge of the real world. I want them to be explorers and nature detectives that find a connection to all of the curriculum. We are focusing on STEM (Science Technology Engineering Mathematic) and all the amazing techniques that accompany this intriguing teaching opportunity. It is the time to make these challenges approachable. Having trade books that support our STEM objectives will tie their English Language and Mathematics classrooms together permitting these inquisitive investigators to expand the scope of everyday textbooks. Science and technology stories are in short supply at our school and our digital natives need more modern text to create the impact that will inspire another generation of scientists. Here's an opportunity to be a patron of tomorrow's researchers and inventors. Having science related trade books will take these kids on adventures beyond our classroom on a fantastic journey.
The United States of America needs to share the STEM experiences with all of our children.
It is essential to provide learning communities for all students. Science relates to all classroom subjects and it permeates all life. We must invest in our future. The environment and our very lives depend on clever kids that will grow into the scientists that will heal our planet and build a stronger tomorrow. Your generosity will plant the seed of STEM in our urban community that inspires growth.
