This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In a typical day in our classroom, my students work on credit recovery toward graduation. I would like my students to be able to graduate, and have some type of skills that they can build on when they leave.
My students are current foster youth who live in an on site group home, that works in conjunction with probation.
They are disenfranchised with traditional schools and have large gaps in their education. The majority of the students are below grade level in reading and math, and need skills to take to the "real" world.
My Project
I see my students using the materials in the classroom to learn Design and Modeling and Automation and Robotics. In Design and Modeling, they will be learning to use isometrics and measurement. The students will be printing "blue prints" for
a toy and a playground. After designing their playground, the students will give a presentation on what they designed and why they designed it in that manner
In Automation and Robotics, students will be building knowledge on coding and putting together viable robotic models such as cars, stop lights and moving bridges.
The donations will improve my classroom because the students will be able to use them to hone presentation skills and learn basic computer design and coding.
Using these resources will allow students who are in the Juvenile Justice system to explore career paths that may not have been open to them in the past.
