This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"No one heals himself by wounding another." -- St. Ambrose

I teach fourth grade in a rural, low-income area of Northern California.

We are considered a Title I school, as the vast majority of our students qualify for free and reduced lunch. We also have a very high percentage of ESL (English as a Second Language) students.

My Project

Every day I hear multiple stories about students who are treated unfairly, students who have been teased, excluded, or made to feel lesser than. I'm tired of it! My students know what I expect of them, but when I'm not around, the lessons don't seem to stick! My students need more examples about how to handle negative behavior from others, and how to refrain from participating in it themselves. I am asking for eighteen reading books written at an age-appropriate level that my students can read independently. These books will also be used as whole-class reading stories, and many of them correspond to our school's Accelerated Reader program.

Please help my students start the year off right with an all-encompassing introduction to what bullying really looks like, how to handle it, and how to avoid becoming a bully themselves.
