My students need the document camera, dry erase easel map, and book to interactively engage in our reading of George Washington, Spymaster during our unit in October.
My students are actively engaged in reading primary documents. My students love to be at the center of the learning and be hands on by using tools like the document camera, white board easel, and map. This allows me to facilitate while they interact and learn from each other.
Our school is located just outside of a large downtown in Florida.
It is a middle school serving approximately 1,400 students in grades 6-8. We are in a very culturally diverse city. I have students that come from many different countries and states as well as many different socioeconomic backgrounds. I find that my students learn so much about culture and different places through each other. Their different perspectives are always incorporated somehow into our discussions and add to our lessons.
My Project
My students will be reading George Washington, Spymaster during our American Revolution unit. This book allows them to practice with primary sources including first hand accounts and maps while learning about the spies the helped the colonies during the war. While we are reading, we will be doing various interactive activities for engagement and comprehension. For many of the activities, students will be able to share their ideas by using the white board easel and moving it around the room to make it easy for all to see. (We have limited white board space in the classroom, as much of it is used for our required daily agenda). The document camera will be used for several projection activities and we can also take pictures and video of our work and post it online for students that are absent. The map will be used to easily visually locate places in the story. The map, easel, and document camera will also be used throughout the year and not just for this American Revolution unit.
These items will not just enhance our American Revolution unit, but will enhance units throughout the year, as three out of four of the items can be used for various lessons and units.
These items will allow for more engaged interaction, as well as more visual representation of concepts.
