My students need these special seats, because many of them have ADHD and need the simple stimulation that the ball chairs and discs allow them to stay focused.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Sitting still is overrated. It makes sense for the opera or for meditating, but in most classrooms and child care centers, it's given far more honor than it deserves. Children need to move." ~Tom Hunter, National Association for the Education of Young Children.
My students are both special needs and English Language learners.
They face exponential learning challenges. One of the major difficulties that they have is inability to focus because of their moderate to severe ADHD.
My classroom is in rural California and many of my students' families work in the fields of the agricultural industry. My students, however, dream of being police officers, doctors, and teachers. As economically disadvantaged, learning disabled students the odds are stacked against them.
Every moment they are distracted becomes another moment that they fall behind.
My Project
In typical classrooms children are told to sit still. For some children, sitting still and paying attention do not go hand in hand. Some children need to move to be able to pay attention. A Mayo Clinic Study found that kids with attention problems are able to focus more easily when sitting on the stability ball rather than a traditional chair.
When students sit on stability balls, both sides of their brains are engaged in keeping their bodies centered on the balls. And when the brain is stimulated, it's more focused on learning. Not only is the brain better suited to processing new information, young minds are also better able to concentrate on exams, note-taking, class discussions, and other aspects of classroom learning. Fidgeting helps children with ADHD concentrate, and just a little movement on the stability balls can meet their demands for expelling excess energy.
By helping with this project, you are assisting the students in being able to focus more in the classroom which will help aid them in continued academic growth.
My students are on average 3 school years behind their peers and with increased focus, great gains are possible.
