The day begins with Brain Dance, and is followed by a mixture of academic lessons, gross motor and fine motor work, sensory stimulation, self help and life skills training, as well as communication and speech therapy. Hopefully we will add more art soon!
I have seven amazing students.
Their ages range from 5-12, kindergarten through fifth grade. They all have multiple disabilities including a physical disability in which they use a wheelchair, walker, braces, or other assistive device. I have two students that are verbal and five that are nonverbal. I am always looking for ways for my students to be able to communicate or express themselves.
My classroom is considered to be a special education multi-handicap class within a public elementary school. The teachers and administration all work with me to include my students as much as is appropriate into the regular education classes.
My Project
My students will participate in hands on art projects that correlate with the weekly lesson. They will have opportunities to paint, stamp, glue, and create. They will develop hand eye coordination, fine motor skills, learn how to complete step by step instructions and have a way to express themselves.
While art is important for all children, it is crucial for kids with special needs.
Artistic activities directly exercise and strengthen the cognitive and physical skills that generally challenge special needs children, such as oral, tactile, visual, sensory and motor skills. With the art supplies requested, my students will have the opportunity to express themselves and succeed! Thank you for your donation!
