I work in a resource special education math classroom. I may have students who are needing Algebra 1, Intermediate Algebra, or Math of Finance credits, all in the same class period. Because of this, things can become chaotic and keeping kids engaged is a must!
They are high school special education students whose abilities range from 1st grade levels to average.
Many come from low socioeconomic homes and put very little stock in education. A huge hurdle is getting them to value the education they are receiving.
My Project
We will use the document camera to demonstrate how to enter equations and math problems in their calculators, because visual instructions always help my students. We will also use it to show student work samples and evaluate it.
The money manipulatives will be used for the Math of Finance students who need assistance in learning to count money, count back change, and other money related skills.
The brain games will be used as reinforcers for students who complete their work and give them an engaging way to spend their extra time.
Most of my students do not put any value in school and only attend because they have to.
I am always looking for new ways to get my students to be actively engaged in the lessons. These materials will help improve engagement, while also providing fun learning opportunities.
