My students need step two of a usable sound system for auditorium use. With a set of cabinet speakers and one monitor, any solo singing will be picked up much easier.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The stage has been cleared. The lighting is getting fixed. We have started small performances and completed our first project of obtaining a working microphone system. With two speaker cabinets and a monitor, we should have a clear and balanced sound from solo, group, and accompaniment.
My students are resilient, energetic and excited.
After our third graders performed "Johnny Appleseed" for kindergarten, the feeling was mutual. We had accomplished something. It took weeks of hard work, organization, preparation and planning. My students were excitedly making props, scenery, and other items to be used in the performance. This made learning a collaborative effort on many levels. We read, memorized and sang six verses, along with a repeated refrain. Through the words of the song we discussed the geography of the United States, as well as making connections to art, culture and history.
I have students that come back to me from middle school sharing their talents in dance, theater, music, and the performing arts. The plan this year is to put on more mini plays, musicals, and performances that showcase their diverse talents.
Performing "The Jungle Book" mini musical is what my ultimate goal is.
My Project
Although I am working towards having a fully mounted overhead speaker system, it is also completely important to take the first steps with front speakers and usable monitor. Having that monitor helps students hear sound cues and keeps timing issues to a minimum.
This is all so important because without it those shy little voices tend not to be heard.
And, it's the quiet ones who often have the most to say. If I can help them in any way I will.
