Inner city students are challenged by environmental factors, yet, like many students, a love of learning often begins with exposure to an empowering creative curriculum -- this application supports such a ceramics course, proven to academically engage, encourage and excite students in Baltimore, MD.
The students in our school come from a wide range of backgrounds.
We are an inner city school with most of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. We are unique in Maryland because we have the largest population of refugee students in the state, along with many ESOL students. Many of these students have never had an art class before. Ceramics has become very popular among all the students not just those who love to create art. Your financial investment in this ceramics program will change students' lives for the better by increasing the expectations that they have for themselves and that teachers have for them. Teachers are among the most important people in students' lives and the most important part of our public education system. Our teachers' biggest problem is a lack of resources. This ceramics project provides needed resources to produce tangible models of students' excellence. Ceramics are uniquely visual example students potential for all to see.
My Project
Ceramics in our school has been one of the most popular courses in the school. A wide range of students have become interested in ceramics. Unfortunately with inadequate resources the amount of the student population have been able to take ceramics is limited. The size and variety of students artwork is also restricted because of inadequate supplies. Students that are not able to take it during the day can come to an after school ceramics program. With additional funding we can increase the after school program to accommodate more students, increase the days of the program and allow students to create without limitations.
Help enrich these inner city students' lives, by supporting the ceramics program.
Give students a chance to create amazing artwork. With these supplies students can express themselves in a positive way through art.
