This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

FREE ENERGY!! My students have little idea of how much potential energy there is from the sun. Using these panels, we can learn electronics, as well as why LED and fluorescent bulbs are more efficient.

My students are fantastic.

They all from an urban area in California and get free lunches. They are curious about the world outside of their neighborhood and want to explore more. Our school believes in educating them about the environment through project-based learning. I try to pass on what I know, but the best way to learn things is to find out for yourself.

My Project

My students need 10 Solar Cell mini panels to explore how much energy the sun gives us and to learn the basics of electronics as well. Using these solar panels, I will set up experiments for the students to explore the reasons why LED and fluorescent bulbs are more efficient and what happens when multiple panels are connected together. We will build on these experiments to find out how much power it will take to supply a typical house, how many panels that would require, mow much it will cost, how long it will take to get the money back in terms of saving money on the power bill, and how much carbon can be saved over time.

I am trying to expand my students knowledge in any way I can, and using real world examples (though scaled down to classroom size), and hands on activities, helps them gain understanding.
