Social Stories for Social Emotional Skill Development
My students need books that help them understand social skills and have characters the students can connect with. Like The Color of Us, I Like Me and The Recess Queen.
We are a team of three first grade classrooms working together. We have a very energetic and diverse group of students entering our school. They come from many cultures and socio-economic backgrounds from all over the world. Some students are newcomers to America and are learning English.
Our students are excited 6 and 7 year olds who are eager to learn, but many have limited resources at home.
Our city is a refugee resettlement community; therefore our classes are rich with cultural diversity. With your help, our team can create a literature rich environment with characters and stories that the students can connect with.
My Project
My students need books that help them understand social skills and have characters the students can connect with. Like The Color of Us, I Like Me and The Recess Queen. These books will help solidify their understanding of school-wide behavioral and learning expectations. The purpose of these stories is to showcase appropriate ways to interact within a community. This will also help students develop a strong foundation for learning and achieving their goals in first grade.
These books will help students understand how to reinforce the expectations while in school as well as create and sustain positive relationships with their peers.
Our hope is these books will help the students become safe, responsible and respectful community members.
