This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
FUN stands for Friends Understanding Nicely. We are scholars committed to reaching our academical potential while getting along with one another and learning how to settle conflict in a productive way. We love to compete with one another and we want to be able to find ways to do so in a healthy way.
My scholars are intriguing!
They have a love of fun and a seriousness about their achievement all at the same time! Despite the obstacles to achievement that they face in our community, they continue to persevere and reach for higher goals than they have reached before. I taught this incoming class when they were in Kindergarten; between my experience with them and the feedback I received from their 1st grade teachers I would like to have the materials they need in place when they arrive.
My Project
Learning takes place interpersonally as well as directly, so I intend for scholars to not just have a "Fun Day" where they are not responsible for any academic work. I would like to use opportunities for play to also teach students how to better work with one another: assigning roles and dealing with conflict. I would also like to use these materials to unconventionally assess foundational skills and build greater rapport among my scholars.
I have heard it said:
Good, better, best, never let it rest, until good gets better and better becomes best.
This is what I strive for in our classroom and I hope that you will help me make it so!
