My students need organizational tools, such as book bins and labels in order to sort our classroom library. Balance cushions are needed to help students focus and succeed.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever had the wiggles and just can't sit still? Or, have you had to dig through book after book to find the one you were wanting? My students need the correct tools in order for them to stay focused on their education and to help them organize their classroom library.
We are a Title I school in rural North Carolina where 70% of my class speaks English as a second language, and a whopping 96% receive free or reduced lunch.
My students are enthusiastic and eager to learn. They come to school with open minds and hearts ready to see what adventure we will go on next.
My Project
By having book bins and book labels, my students will be able to easily find a book based on genre. Most students have an idea of what sort of book they want to read, but they get discouraged when they have to sort through a stack of books to find one that matches that desire. The labels will also help students remember what bin to return the book to when they are finished.
It is no secret that second graders have wiggles they need to get out. Some students are able to wait until recess, others cannot help but to move around. This movement often decreases focus. The balance cushions will provide a tool for students that just need to wiggle a bit. This will not become a distraction for others, and will help that child focus on the lesson being taught. The pump will help make sure the cushion has plenty of air and does not deflate in the middle of the year. The hand held fidget tools will help provide students with something to do with their hands instead of bang their pencil.
This project is important because we need to do whatever it takes to close the gap these students already have by living in poverty.
Organization is a tool that they will use for the rest of their lives. Learning best practices to deal with attention deficit disorders (ADD), or just the wiggles, will help increase their focus which will increase their ability to succeed in life. I want to provide every child in my class the best possible education and YOU can help.
