Imagine seeing the excitement in the eyes of my students as they learn important skills while having fun doing activities on the smart board. With the use of a laptop my students can experience this excitement all together or with a partner.
I have a classroom of 30 students with a wide variety of learning skill levels.
We have a small school in a rural area with 37% of our students qualifying for free and reduced lunches. Because this percentage is below 40% we do not qualify for any title one programs to help our students. Our school also has combined classes as our numbers do not allow us to have 2 classes for every grade. This adds extra challenges in meeting the needs of our students.
My Project
A laptop will allow me to install smart board games and activities that will challenge the students while they practice many needed skills in reading, math, language, science, and social studies. Our network computers will not allow us to install this software and many of the programs are only allowable on one device. Because the laptop is portable students can work in pairs, groups, or individually to use these programs.
Students who struggle with writing and spelling can use it to word process. They can practice their spelling words and write stories. They can even record their stories and have them read back to them.
When they are absent and have missed Ondine tests they can use it to make up what they have missed.
My students can build fluency by reading read along books.
Through the use of google they can use their email, work on power point presentations, share their stories, work collaboratively, and share their work with the class.
It will be an amazing tool.
My students will be energized as they are engaged in the possibilities available to them through 21st century technology.
They will have a chance to direct their own learning through the choices available to them while reinforcing the needed skills for reading, math, writing, and social sciences. It will add a tool for them to research topics, work together on projects, make up missed work, and engage in fun learning games. The use of the laptop can only help to motivate my students.
