This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every time I encounter a SMART Board I get excited about how I could use it in my art room. I think most of us know what it's like to have a new piece of technology to play with. I want my students to have that experience in the art room. Museum sites have the best interactive educational games.

Our school is located in a high poverty area and many of our students live in the neighboring housing projects.

We always have high attendance and the students are excited to learn and explore new subjects in the arts and literacy. The students at our school may not have the same opportunities as many New York students; but there is a team of hard working teachers bridging that gap. I want the students to have a quality art education and the requested SMART Board will help bridge the education gap and make learning exciting and interactive.

My Project

Putting a SMART Board in our art room will open up the world to my students. I do all my lesson planning using resources from institutions around the world. Some of my favorites are the British Art Museum, Metropolitan Museum, and the China Institute. There are so many opportunities for me to enhance my lessons and my students learning experience ,but I have no access to the sites without a SMART Board. The world is developing so fast and I'm working hard to help my students stay up with current events while connecting with our history using the world of art.

Our students are so eager to learn, yet our school lacks so many resources and funds to keep up with their active minds. As the art teacher I work with the other classroom teachers to make connections to their other subjects like social studies, reading and math. Having a SMART Board would expand the possibilities and make teaching and learning exciting for both my students and me. Thank you in advance for your help.
