Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I remember my first pen pal. She was from another country and it was exciting to receive her letters and get to know about her and her culture even though I never got to meet her. With Skype, my students can have pen pals in other countries or states, with the opportunity of meeting through Skype.

Currently, I am teaching fifth grade magnet students within a Title I school.

My students come from a lower socio-economic community. Many of my students do not have Internet access at home. I am amazed with the lack of resources my students have, and yet, are more than eager to challenge themselves at school to do the best they can with the little technology we have in our classroom and our school.

My Project

I am requesting a laptop computer and tablets to be able to implement Skype in my classroom. Having the ability to have guest speakers on Skype or having my students taught by another teacher in another country, state or classroom without them having to leave their classroom is an invaluable lesson and is giving my students that opportunity to understand our global culture. With Skype, my students can communicate with other students from different countries and other states. Being a member of Skype in the classroom will help me be able to have the support of other teachers.

My project will enable my students to experience what it means to live in a "Flat World".

Receiving a laptop and tablets will enable us to use Skype to communicate with other students and teachers in other parts of our world and country, and also bring in guest speakers that would ordinarily not be able to come to our classroom.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
