Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our class is a high-energy class. I have promised to show them how reading and writing can be not only be helpful, but enjoyable. We run the gamut of skill levels in all our subjects, so we try to customize our lessons as much as possible.

Our school is one of the under-funded inner-city schools you hear so often about.

My class is made up of a mix of special needs students, English Language Learners, and gifted students. As I said before, we really run the gamut. Our school has 99% free lunches, but an unfortunately dwindling population that keeps us from having enough funding.

My Project

Well, there's a variety of stuff in this request. My students need high-interest books (comics and young adult books inspiring hit movies). We also need a printer that actually works, decorations, organizers, and more. Lots of high-interest books to motivate them to read. (You should see some of the lame books we inherited.) We've also requested basic classroom supplies that seem to get pricier every year. Also requested are some computer supplies to enliven the environment, along with some purely decorative and enjoyable materials as well.

As it is, my students look askance at our library.

This isn't youthful resistance, it's totally justified. I myself am more of an instructor than a decorator, but with these materials my class will look as good as it really is.
