Every day we write, a lot! Students have a chance to free write, write books, write to study words, and write reports. They are so excited to write, but it can be a challenge to find a sharp pencil. These sharpeners will allow my students to have a sharp pencil at the ready.
I teach a class of bright and inquisitive first graders at a small rural school.
They are energetic about learning each day. In fact, if we miss a particular lesson, even for a fun activity, they remind me the next day so they can learn what they missed!
My Project
My students will use these pencil sharpeners to quickly and quietly sharpen pencils so they can do what they love to do, write great stories! They currently try and try to get a pencil sharp, but it is not easy to do, especially as all of our sharpeners have worn out! The stylus will allow students to write neatly when they use the tablets to write stories, as well.
This project will make a difference every day.
Every day, students are struggling to find the tools they need to complete an assignment or project. They are frustrated with pencils that won't sharpen in a crank style pencil sharpener. Pencils just are not made the way they used to be. Even small hand-held sharpeners do not seem to sharpen a pencil. This will allow my student to do what they love, write more!
