My Students

Finding enough time to teach every standard I'm responsible for can sometimes be a challenge...especially when you're trying to make it exciting for today's learners! I think that the Magic Tree House series may just have the perfect answer!

I teach in a school where the children come from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and socioeconomic situations.

The majority of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch, which means their families are struggling financially. Each year I typically have a few students with learning disabilities and speech needs. It is not uncommon to have one third of my students speak English as a second language.

My Project

In order to cover all of the curriculum I'm required to teach and keep my kids engaged, I've got to get creative! The Magic Tree House series (and integrating curriculum) can help! Two of our big history units deal with the Civil War and the Revolutionary War. We also discuss slavery and the Reconstruction period. We have some trade books we use now to address these topics, but many of them have reading levels above the abilities of my students. The Magic Tree House books I'm requesting are more appropriate for the majority of the reading levels in my classroom. Plus, my kids LOVE the Magic Tree House series! Not only will they be learning, but they'll be practicing their reading skills and having fun! The other titles I'm requesting would give my students a few other options for book studies toward the end of the school year.

I want to give my students the very best academic experiences possible...without skimping on content.

Utilizing the Magic Tree House series in order to integrate curriculum will help me do just that. By donating to this project, you're helping me to make history (and reading) lessons exciting and relevant for my students (those I have this year and in years to come)!
