In our library, Dr. Seuss books are still some of the most popular choices in the collection. Sometimes a student will use all of his or her checkouts on Dr. Seuss! All of the kids enjoy the classic Dr. Seuss stories, and would love to handle new, library-bound copies.
Our Title One school population includes over 50% of students in financial difficulty, on free or reduced lunches, many without the benefit of stability in housing or access to books in their home situations.
Our students are curious and active and love to spend time in the library.
My Project
My students need new, library-bound Dr. Seuss books and a display case so that the younger students can easily see and choose the books they want. In March, our school celebrates Read Across America and Dr. Seuss's birthday. Some of the teachers check out a lot of Dr. Seuss books to have available for special reading time in their classrooms, and it is a time when the kids also want to be able to check out their own copies, but our collection can't keep up with the high demand.
Our current Dr. Seuss collection has been well-loved and gets used constantly throughout the year, so several of the copies are worn out.
The average age of our Dr. Seuss books is 30 years, but several are 50! They are not in great shape, but they are still checked out frequently, which shows how much the children love them and how much they need to be replaced. The students deserve attractive new versions of the books they love so much!
