Papers here, papers there, papers everywhere! My first grade students have many materials that they need to keep track of. This can be quite a challenge for a 6-7 year old student and they need an individual place to keep their items safe and organized.
I have the best group of students!
Our school is located in a lower socioeconomic area and my students come from various backgrounds. All students at our school receive free breakfast and many qualify for free or reduced lunch. Although my students face many challenges, each day they come in with a smile on their face and are more eager to learn than the last.
My Project
My students will use these seat sacks daily. Many of our current seat sacks have been well used through the years and now have tears or holes in them that are beyond repair. To make them last as long as possible, I cover the top of the chair with foam pipe insulation so that the seat sack has extra cushion to rest on and when weighted down does not begin to tear. I have also had many of the seat sacks sewn back together and reinforced to last as long as possible. Even with these extra steps, they only last so long and we are in need of some replacements. Seat sacks are also a great way for students to learn to be responsible for their independent materials and to stay organized. These are two skills that are not listed in our curriculum, but are important for daily life.
This project is important for our classroom so that my students each have an individual place for their materials.
It will help promote organization and responsibility. With a space for their materials, it will keep their table area clean, clear, and clutter free so they can do their best learning!
