Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you recall how nice it was to have all of your supplies whenever you needed them? Was there ever a time when you were missing something and fretted about what to do? I want my students to experience the former and, never again, the latter.
I have some of the most excellent scholars around.
They are full of energy and enthusiasm in spite of being from tough homes. Many of my scholars are from low socioeconomic status families, are SPED, and/or ESL. They have an innate desire to learn and be successful. It's been an honor serving them and guiding them along their journey. My school is what some may call a "rough" school. They struggled with state assessments for a number of years, but have started turning things around over the past 3. I see the desire in all I encounter to make our school the best. We have great scholars, educators, and administrators. Our parents are starting to get involved and I'm looking forward to seeing those numbers climb.
My Project
My scholars, and I, will utilize these requested composition notebooks, pens, and pencils throughout the year. We'll take notes, complete classwork, conduct labs, and keep our work organized. The composition notebooks provide a sturdy location for notes to be taken and shared. Scholars will find it easy to record information and quiz each other during an interactive learning session. The composition notebooks will be kept in the classroom and organized by class period. These notebooks will also provide a place where scholars can, easily, store classwork. This work can be glued, pasted, or taped to a single page. During our many labs, my scholars will have a reliable location to record/analyze data, create illustrations, and discuss conclusions. The notebooks will also act as a resource if they need to turn back and re-study previously covered material. My scholars will be keeping everything in one location as opposed to random locations such as a backpack. Pens and Pencils are needed throughout these various activities.
I witnessed many scholars lose valuable instruction time because they weren't prepared.
This was, for many, due to no fault of their own. These materials will prevent students from experiencing that again. I want them to enter our classroom not worrying about their supplies, but having the ability to be ready for bell to bell learning. Donations will go a long way in creating an environment where my scholars can focus on learning and growing.
