Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you learn better when you can hold and explore models that explain the world around you? My students do.
My students are low-income English learners who enjoy school, but struggle with reading.
Most of my students are reading one to two years below grade level. They enjoy learning about new concepts and digging deep into scientific concepts. I want to help students maintain this love of learning by hooking them in with life cycle manipulatives that show the life cycle stages of various animals.
My Project
I am requesting books and materials that describe the life cycle of various animals. These manipulatives are small models of the stages of each animals life cycle. Students will be able to hold and play with these models, arranging and rearranging them in the correct order. The models will serve as a spring board for writing about the animals' life cycles. I am also ordering a few books to go along with the models. These books will enhance students' learning about life cycles.
Most of my students are tactile learners who love looking at and exploring new ideas.
It is much better to explore science through hands-on models than pictures in books. These models will help our students truly understand the metamorphosis an animal goes through during it's lifetime.
