My Students

Do remember wonderful, hands-on science experiments? Do you remember using beakers, flasks, microscopes and scales for the first time? Students feel like "real" scientists when they use "real" science equipment.

We are a public charter school based upon inquiry, projects and social-emotional development.

My students care about each other and love to learn. They have build a strong middle school community and often amaze guest-speakers with their authentic enthusiasm and professionalism. We take student-led field trips, strive to make the earth a better place and persevere through academic challenges. We have many ethnic, religious and economic groups in our community.

My Project

I am requesting four digital scales and a periodic table of the elements. Two scales are accurate to 1 gram and two scales go down to 0.1 gram, for finding the mass of different objects. The periodic table will allow students to better understand atoms and molecules. This year we will study everything from chemistry to nutrition to physics and we will use the periodic table make connections between each discipline.

This project is so important because I have made a commitment to my students to design, with their help, the best science class ever.

This goal is difficult to achieve with a class budget of zero dollars.
