Do you remember the first time you saw an animal from the ocean and could not believe how AWESOME it looked? Many of my students have not had the opportunity to see animals from a marine ecosystem and have no idea what they are missing.
My students are 9th grade Biology students who enjoy learning about biology from a hands-on perspective.
They enjoy labs and manipulatives that help them comprehend the standards being taught. They attend a school which is proud of it's accomplishments in education.
My Project
A saltwater aquarium will help my students understand the importance of a marine ecosystem. Having a marine ecosystem in the classroom can enhance student learning in many ways. The students will have the opportunity to help set up the aquarium/ecosystem and will create a plan to take care of the aquarium. They will also use biology techniques such as: checking the water (pH, etc), observing the behavior of different sea creatures, recording their observations, etc. The students will learn how different organisms in an ecosystem interact with each other and the importance of saving ecosystems.
Donations to this request will help my students enjoy participating in biology activities related to the aquarium.
It will also help enhance responsibility among students. My hope is that having the ecosystem in the classroom will allow my students to see how important ecosystems are and maybe it will lead to them spreading the word to help save the many ecosystems that are being destroyed everyday.
