This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The 7th and 8th grade Special Education students in my class are transforming into authors this year. Their journey requires reference books, writing prompts, and editing tools to help them succeed. These tools, placed in the hands of ready students, will help them make academic leaps and bounds.
At my school, 97% of students are low-income, 35% of students speak limited English, 24% of students are Diverse Learners (Special Education) and 100% of the students I work with LOVE using Donors Choose supplies to enhance their education.
My students are significantly below grade level in writing and are willing to work hard to become authors.
My Project
In Writing class, my students will be able to roll a die or pull a card from a prompt box to cure any hint of writer's block. Grammar will no longer be difficult as students review concepts with a library of books. As students move through their drafts, they will be able to consult dictionaries, thesauruses and even rhyming dictionaries. Students will learn how to peer-edit papers and make helpful revisions and suggestions in different color pens. They will write across different genres and learn how to develop their writing and provide constructive feedback for their fellow authors.
This project will help reluctant writers grow in confidence as they develop their writing skills.
My high school bound students will master writing in a safe environment as they are surrounded by materials that will unlock their path to success.
