Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Cross your fingers, boys and girls!" These are my words when I am about to present a power point presentation or I want to use one of our new program's software in the room. The reason is that our present computer is so outdated that the CD either gets stuck or it takes forever to download.

I think my children deserve the world!

They are 25 incredible second graders that could have many challenges ahead of them if we do not prepare them. Our school is composed of mostly latinos and African Americans. They are high achievers in all academic areas and some are potentially gifted, all filled with many curiosities. Our school has 100% free lunch for all children because they belong to low income families. Since we live in a world where technology is taking over, my students are at a disadvantage because they do not have the means to reinforce what they learn at home. Only two of my students have access to computers at home. Also, some of my students are second language learners that receive no help at home because their parents do not speak English. All their academics and practices must be done inside the classroom.

My Project

I imagine a day where I want to present a power point presentation from my computer and not have the computer take a long time downloading it. Or put a new software about a vocabulary lesson and have the computer ejected it because it can not read it. All of that is valuable time that we waste. I know what resources are out there, I would love to utilize them in the best way possible and I know that I could do it if I had what I need and that is a lap top computer. My students do many presentations about different topics every month. I can't wait to see my students presenting them using online images from the web. And how about saving them so they can keep them forever. I also see my students working on graphs and conducting surveys, working together in a technology center when I do not use it for direct lessons, There are endless possibilities my students can do with the laptop.

To be honest, it is not until this year that I realized the importance of technology in the classrooms.

Every time I say I will try to project something from the computer the children are so eager, attentive, and engaged. Why? In my opinion the reason is that their minds are already in this technological era,and we as teachers must also be aboard this train or we will be the ones outdated! Please help me, help my students!!
