My students need a well functioning light table. In the past, I have tried making home-made light tables, but they don't work well.

My Students

We are 4 and 5 year olds that explore, create, and learn through play. We do activities that prime students for kindergarten and further. Everyday we do art, math, science, and literacy all through play and exploration. By the end of the year we hopefully are ready for kindergarten!

In my class we have a wide representation of culture and language.

We have 5 different languages spoken in our classroom. These kids benefit from the social interaction of play and exploration. Our school is highly mobile and we have a rather high homeless population. We are over 70% poverty and 50% of our students are English Language Learners.

My Project

I would love this table for use with math concepts such as patterning, counting, and sorting. We will also use the table for science topics such as transparent objects, how light shines through certain types of materials, but not all. We will have many conversations which helps with our ELL classmates. It is always great to have a new angle for traditional concepts. The light table will engage students in all these core learning areas in a new way.

This donation will provide my students with a professional grade piece of equipment.

It will allow more students to participate around the concepts of math, social interaction, and literacy. And of course it is fun! When kids are having fun they are extremely engaged in learning!
