Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are extremely hard-working. Every day they give 100% effort inside of the classroom. They love to work hard and are always very proud of the work they complete. My students always give 100%, and I believe they should be given the materials to help them achieve their best work.
Our school is Title 1 with most students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch.
My students do not easily have access to computers or reference materials outside of the classroom, and those that they do have access to are seriously falling apart. By providing my students with opportunities to use a proper dictionary and a proper thesaurus, not only will their vocabulary become enriched, but it will translate into their school work.
My Project
As I was taking my old reference materials out of my closet today I noticed that they are an awful shape. Having the new kid friendly reference materials in the classroom would truly benefit my students.
Our dictionaries are 20+ years old, and we do not have enough copies for our class. By having access to current dictionaries and thesauri, it will be easier for my students to research words for their reading and writing classwork. Having a class set ensures that they won't have to wait while another student is using the resource. Having updated reference materials in the classroom will help enrich my students' oral and written language skills.
Providing my students with the opportunity to enrich their vocabularies will help them become even more successful learners.
My students love learning new words. They understand that by expanding their vocabularies they will expand their horizons.
