Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle- How We Can Help the Environment

My students need books and resources to understand how and why we need to care for the environment.

My Students

How do we care for the environment? Why should we recycle and reuse things? My students need to understand the importance of taking care of the environment and how they can make a difference for the future.

My students are a diverse community of learners.

We have 65% of our students who qualify for free and reduced lunch. Students speak many languages and come from different walks of life. Some children have great support at home, while others live with single parents and have little support in school.

My Project

Our school is working together to achieve Level 2 Green Schools. I want my students to take an active part in environmental learning and awareness. We teach the three R's at school: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, but kids don't always really know how or why we need to do that. I have requested reusable tote bags, protecting our environment book library, practice recycling pocket chart, and a game that students play that challenges them to be "greener". With these materials students will learn how and why it is important to reduce, reuse, and recycle to help protect the earth for future generations. Reduce- students will have their own grocery tote bag they can use to help reduce the number of plastic bags. Reuse- students can reuse their tote bag for lunch, shopping, carrying books. Recycle- students will have a visual of what things can be recycled and learn about how recycled materials are remade into new things.

The children of today are the future generation of tomorrow.

If we can instill an understanding of stewardship of the earth, they will be prepared to lead the future in a socially and ecologically responsible way. My project will help them practice, read about, and give them an opportunity to participate in environmental learning.
