Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the first time you looked through a microscope and were amazed with what you saw?
My students attend a small (approximately six hundred students,) high achieving charter school in Southern California.
They are high school students enrolled in an Advanced Placement Environmental Science Course or Human Anatomy and Physiology.
My students are from an urban area and most of them are from families with low socioeconomic status. They are Title I students who are very motivated to succeed.
My Project
My students need Rechargeable batteries for their dissecting microscopes. My AP Environmental students will use the rechargeable batteries in our classroom dissecting microscopes during our unit on the atmosphere and atmospheric pollution. They will sample the air quality of various locations and count particulates under the microscope to determine which areas have better air quality.
The students in my Human Anatomy and Physiology course will use the dissecting microscopes as they dissect the organs of various persevered specimens and sample tissues. This will allow them to view tissue up close and personal.
My students have dissecting microscopes that were purchased by my school.
However, they need rechargeable batteries to use them when they are conducting experiments or looking at organs of preserved specimens.
