My Students

What's more motivating than a chance to use Mr. Sketch markers? As soon as I bring out markers and paper to make posters in math class, students are excited to volunteer and participate! These interactive activities help students to more deeply understand and engage with the math.

I work with an energetic group of eighth grade students in an urban public school in WI.

The kids are full of personality! One of the best things about our school is the variety of backgrounds. The students in our classes speak many different languages and have lived in other states and countries. It's great that students can share so many perspectives!

My Project

Picture 15 students' hands up in the air ready to participate in an 8th grade math classroom. On a day when I ask students to make a poster to explain the math, they are so much more motivated to participate. It's amazing what a few markers, glue stick, scissors and colored paper will do to help students engage in the math topic of the day. In addition to motivation, students feel a sense of ownership and pride when their work is hanging in the classroom or hallway. Please help me to engage students in math activities!

This project will give students the chance to start challenging themselves early on in the school year.

The materials will help set the stage for an active style of learning where kids are engaged with the math. As students use the materials to create projects, they are more motivated to explain the the math strategies they use in words and pictures.
