Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I'm yelling at the runner to go back because she didn't touch the base, but with her teammates cheering her on and the opposing team hollering at each other about what they should do, she can't hear me! A megaphone will help ensure that the game goes on and give everyone more time to play.

Our school is in southern California.

Students come from a wide range of socioeconomic levels, but with today's economic realities, many of our families are really struggling. The academic performance level of students in this class range from below basic to advanced, but every student is working hard and showing academic improvement. I am proud of the progress of all of my students. Our school has an active PTA and parents support our school in every way they can so that every student can receive some type of arts education and enrichment. The PTA also pays for psychomotor time, which is a win-win situation because students receive physical education instruction, while teachers have an opportunity to collaborate, share best practices, and plan together every other week. Physical education is a favorite student activity and provides another avenue for students, some of whom may not be doing well academically, to shine.

My Project

I am requesting a Megaphone, Egg and Spoon Race game, a Whistle, 2 Magnifiers, a 101 Classroom Games book, and a Guide To On The Move With Speed Sacks for physical education and science activities. The Megaphone and Whistle will be an aid during P.E. to make sure the games run smoothly so that we can maximize our time and efforts during physical education. Balls get flat, so a classroom ball pump will let us pump up the balls as needed, without having to search for someone with access to a key to the ballroom. The Egg and Spoon game sounds like a fun way to get kids moving and to build eye-hand coordination, while the instructional manuals will give the teacher ideas for new and creative ways to bring movement, coordination, and fun activities into the curriculum. What about the magnifiers? Great for seeing things up close and personal (mostly for science-related activities.)
